Take de broom, de sweepin' broom dat she sweep de flo' wit, an' push it up undah 'is haid an' he sleep right dere. Or eithah 'er bloomahs. [Some- where in Hoodoo I have already discussed the sweep- ing broom, a few rites later on called a stick broom or straw broom. There were also varieties of the ancient besom, especially for the old-fashioned fireplace.]

(Where would she push that broom?)

Undah de baid he's layin' [on] 'neat' 'is feeth [a slip of the tongue?]. Push it up undah dere. [She lays the brush part of the broom at the foot of the bed so that the outward handle extends the length line of the bed. The bushy part she then pushes up under the bed until it lies below his head.]
