I can truly say for myself that I have seen a spirit. I was lying in bed one morning and turned over and looked toward the door and there stood: my father- in-law. I knew him well. I knew it was my husband's father. I said, "Merciful Father! Merciful! What does father Dempsy want?" I didn't get frightened at all. I said, "He has come for someone, I know." I never said anything at all to him, but when I kinda winked my eye I saw him go up - he melted away. I never saw no more of him after that. He looked just as he looked in life, only he was just white. I told my husband about it, oh, I guess about three days after that, and he said, "That's nothing strange to me. I'm with all of my dead ones most every night." He said, "That don't bother me at all." And three months after that my husband was taken seriously sick, and I said, "Now I know he will never get up from this attack he had. Seeing father Dempsy, I know he came to notify me that he was going to take him away." It worked out just as I had seen it would.

A man told me that you will see a spirit or a ghost as long as you look at it or seem interested in its presence. As soon as you look away or become indifferent, the spectre will vanish.
